Wekiva Forum
On March 12, 2004, the Metropolitan Center joined Rollins College Department of Environmental Studies and The Healthy Community Initiative in sponsored a community roundtable concerning the Wekiva River Basin Challenge. Florida's dilemma in protecting its places of natural beauty and its water supplies are illustrated most vividly in Central Florida by the fate of the Wekiva Springs and its watershed.
The forum was held at Leu Gardens from 8:30 until noon. The forum was a public update and review of the work of the Wekiva River Basin Coordinating Committee that was sent to the State Legislature.
Jim Murley, Director of the Cantanese Center, served as the moderator, and panelists were Dr. Martin Wanielista of UCF, Charles Pattison of 1000 Friends of Florida, Charles Lee of the Audubon Society and Walt Thompson of The Nature Conservancy. Senator Lee Constantine was a special guest speaker.
